PRACTICE AREAS

Dog Bite Injury

We know our dogs to be pleasant and comforting, and even helpful in our mental health. However, not all are great to have around. Some dogs are aggressive and vicious, and can attack people in a way that results in a serious injury or trauma.

Each state has their own laws, but California keeps a strict liability law regarding dog bites in order to protect its citizens. If you’ve been bitten recently and think you have grounds, you could be entitled to financial compensation.

Under premise liability, dog owners are responsible for the behavior and actions of their pets. When the state standards and regulations are violated, people can be hurt and owners are liable. One of Sedaghat Law Group’s practice areas is dog bite injuries, and we can bring your case to success with proven experience from our legal experts.

Types of Injuries Sustained
From Dog Bites

The list of injuries from a dog bite is probably never-ending, but we’ve seen a handful of recurring ones, some of them being extremely serious. Here are some of the most common injuries sustained from dog bites.

  • Cuts and abrasions
  • Contusions/bruises (dog bites do not have to break skin)
  • Serious Infections
  • Disfigurement and severe scarring
  • Emotional distress and psychological trauma

If you are experiencing or have experienced any of these, please call us or send us an email. Your health and well-being, along with the people you love, is our concern. Sedaghat Law Group can set you up on the path to restitution.

California Dog Bite Law and
Statute of Limitations

California Dog Bite Law: Civil Code § 3342 states that the owner of “any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog,” whether the injury happened in a public or private place, including the property of the dog’s owner.

Additionally, the statute of limitations of a dog bite in California is two years from the date the injury happened. Even if it has been a while and you still have evidence or ongoing issues, our firm would love to help you obtain justice and get the restitutions you or a loved one needs.

Other Animal Attacks

Animal attacks frequently come in the form of dog bites, but other animals can severely injure bystanders and citizens. From bites, scratches, and even kicks, an owner can be held liable for a variety of pets and animals, including:

  • Cats
  • Ferrets and other rodents
  • Large birds
  • Horses and other livestock
  • And other animals

If you weren’t trespassing and did not provoke the animal in question, your case may have grounds against the owner. Reach out to our office; we have legal experts and attorneys waiting for your call or email.
